Translating Clinical Expertise into Strategic Partnership Becton Dickinson

In the high-stakes world of Vascular Access Management (VAM), BD is more than a manufacturer; they are clinical partners. However, their Medical Affairs team faced a significant hurdle: their existing Clinical Services brochure was struggling to articulate the full depth of their value.

The Challenge: Beyond the "Product"

While the team offered everything from safety assessments to peer-led education, the “why” was getting lost in the “what”.

To compete in a landscape where hospital budgets are tightening and in-house resources are stretched thin, BD needed to evolve its narrative to reflect a new EMEA-wide campaign, positioning its services not just as “support,” but as a pillar of sustainable healthcare.

Expertise That Connects Our Approach

The Strategic Intervention: Turning Complex Clinical Services into a Clearer Value Story

Strategic Communication Challenge

To support BD’s new EMEA campaign, we treated the brochure as a strategic communication challenge rather than a simple content update.

Our focus was to clarify how BD’s clinical services should be understood by hospital stakeholders across EMEA: not as standalone support activities, but as part of a broader model for improving practice, reducing risk, and strengthening resource efficiency.

Reframing The Content

We identified a core issue: while BD’s clinical services are highly valuable, their story was fragmented and overly technical, making it difficult for hospital stakeholders to quickly grasp their full impact.

To address this, we reframed the content around a clearer strategic message: BD’s clinical services help hospitals improve practice, reduce risk, and use resources more effectively.

Quality Improvement Cycle

Rather than listing services in isolation, we structured the brochure around the Quality Improvement Cycle—connecting assessment, education, implementation, and impact measurement into a continuous, closed-loop model of clinical excellence.

This made the offering not only clearer, but also more credible as a system rather than a set of individual solutions.

Knowledge Bottleneck

We also tackled a common “knowledge bottleneck.” Drawing on our experience, we recognized where the Medical Affairs team’s deep expertise led to dense, hard-to-digest content.

We translated this into clear, benefit-driven language, enabling stakeholders to more quickly understand the relevance of each service.

Partnership Approach

Finally, we strengthened the narrative by making the real-world impact more visible.

By incorporating examples from clinical settings such as Royal United Hospitals Bath and Lyon University Hospital, and by centering the story on clinicians and patients, we brought the human value of the services to the forefront and reinforced the credibility of BD’s partnership approach.

The Result

The result was more than a brochure; it was a strategic tool that empowers the BD Medical Affairs team to prove their value to hospital C-suites across the EMEA region.

Clarity of Service

From PICC and Midline Placer Training to Hazardous Drug Safe Handling Assessments, every service is now framed through the lens of reducing complications and optimizing resources.

Evidence-Based Impact

The document now clearly communicates the scale of BD’s reach, highlighting the 16,700+ healthcare professionals trained and the 195 clinical reviews completed across Europe.

Future-Proofing the Brand

The new look and feel aligns perfectly with BD’s global campaign, reinforcing their commitment to a sustainable healthcare future where “together, we all play a part”.
